These pillowy Hawaiian rolls transform into warm, sugar-coated apple cider donuts with a gooey apple pie center. They’re crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and bursting with spiced apple flavor. We’ve doubled the batch and added a few cozy upgrades—think cinnamon-vanilla sugar, browned butter, and a touch of nutmeg for nostalgic bakery-shop vibes.
2 (12-count) packages Hawaiian rolls (24 total)
2 cups apple pie filling, chopped
4 pouches (0.74 oz each) apple cider powdered drink mix (like Alpine)
10 tbsp butter, divided
1 cup sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg (optional twist)
1 tsp vanilla extract (added to melted butter)
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Slice a small hole in the side or top of each roll (like a pocket) and gently stuff with 1–2 tsp of apple pie filling.
Melt 5 tbsp of butter with vanilla extract in a small bowl. In another bowl, mix sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and powdered apple cider mix.
Brush each stuffed roll with melted butter and roll in the spiced sugar mixture until fully coated.
Arrange rolls on the baking sheet and bake for 12–15 minutes, until warm and slightly crisp on the edges.
While warm, drizzle with remaining browned butter or serve as is.
