Irresistible Balsamic Bourbon Short Ribs

A cozy, comforting dish of tender short ribs simmered in a luscious balsamic bourbon sauce, perfect for gatherings or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds beef short ribs
  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season your short ribs generously with salt and pepper. In a large pot, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium-high heat and add the ribs, searing on all sides for 3–4 minutes.
  2. Remove the ribs and set aside. In the same pot, sauté onions for 3–4 minutes, adding garlic for the last 30 seconds.
  3. Pour in the balsamic vinegar and bourbon, scraping the pot to lift browned bits. Simmer for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in brown sugar and soy sauce, then add the ribs back into the pot, ensuring they are submerged. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Cover the pot and transfer to a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C). Cook for about 3 hours until fork-tender.
  6. Remove from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Skim excess fat from the sauce before ladling over the ribs.

Notes

Serve over mashed potatoes or polenta for the best flavor experience. These ribs can be made a day in advance as flavors deepen when stored.
