Chicken Shawarma with Garlic Sauce

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp ground paprika
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup garlic sauce
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Marinade the chicken: In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken with olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the chicken: Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and add the marinated chicken. Cook each side for 5-7 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  3. Slice the chicken: After resting, slice the chicken into thin strips.
  4. Assemble the shawarma: Warm the pita bread, layer it with lettuce, tomatoes, sliced chicken, garlic sauce, and onions.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Add lemon juice over the stuffed pita before wrapping it up!
