Whether you serve them warm or chilled, each bite delivers a delicious mix of flaky crust, juicy fruit, and sugary glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

2 cans (21 oz each) cherry pie filling

For the Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 to 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10×15-inch jelly roll pan.

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla and almond extract.

Gradually add flour and salt until combined.

Spread two-thirds of the dough into the prepared pan.

Spoon cherry pie filling evenly over the dough.

Drop spoonfuls of remaining dough over the top of the cherries. It won’t cover completely—that’s okay.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool completely.

For the glaze, whisk powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until smooth. Drizzle over cooled bars before slicing
