Butter Chicken

A rich and creamy Indian dish featuring tender chicken simmered in a buttery, spiced tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs Chicken Thighs
  • 1 cup Yogurt
  • 1 can (15 oz) Tomato Puree
  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, grated
  • 2 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Chili Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh Cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a mixing bowl, combine the chicken thighs, yogurt, garlic, ginger, and half of the spices. Mix well and let it marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Sauté the Chicken: Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pan over medium-high heat. Remove the chicken and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. Create the Sauce: In the same pan, add another tablespoon of butter and the remaining spices. Sauté for about 30 seconds.
  4. Add Tomatoes: Pour in the tomato puree and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Cream Time: Reduce heat to low, stir in the heavy cream, and add the browned chicken back to the pan. Simmer for another 10 minutes.
  6. Taste and Adjust: Taste the dish and add salt and spices as desired.
  7. Serve it Up: Serve over basmati rice or with naan, garnished with fresh cilantro.

Notes

For variations, try substituting chicken with paneer for a vegetarian version, or use coconut cream for a lighter dish.
