Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Create a well, pour in yeast mixture, melted butter, and minced garlic. Mix until it forms a shaggy dough.
  3. Knead the dough: Flour your work surface, turn out the dough, and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the breadsticks: Punch down the dough, divide into 12-15 portions, and roll each into a long rope. Place on a lined baking sheet.
  6. Second rise: Cover and let the shaped breadsticks rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven: Preheat to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Brush and bake: Brush breadsticks with olive oil and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  9. Prepare garlic butter: Melt remaining butter, stir in garlic powder, and brush over breadsticks while warm.
