A classic apple pie filled with sweet apples and warm spices, surrounded by a buttery, flaky crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup cold butter (cubed)
  • 68 tbsp ice water
  • 6 apples (peeled and sliced)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup caramel sauce
  • ½ tsp flaky sea salt
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add the chilled, cubed butter to the flour mixture and work until you have pea-sized crumbs.
  3. Gradually add the ice water, mixing gently until the dough comes together.
  4. Chill the dough by dividing it into two halves, wrapping in plastic wrap, and refrigerating for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Prepare the filling by peeling and slicing the apples.
  6. Combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract in a bowl.
  7. Roll out one disk of chilled dough into a circle and transfer it into a 9-inch pie dish.
  8. Spoon the apple filling into the prepared crust and drizzle with caramel sauce.
  9. Roll out the second disk of dough and place it over the filling.
  10. Brush the top crust with egg wash and bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 15 minutes.
  11. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35–40 minutes.
  12. Cool on a wire rack for at least an hour before serving.
