Homemade Fig Jam

A simple and delicious homemade fig jam recipe that captures the sweet essence of summer.

  • 2 cups ripe summer figs, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Prep the figs: Rinse the figs under cool water, pat dry, remove stems, and chop into quarters.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a large pot, mix chopped figs, sugar, lemon juice, and water. Let sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Cook the mixture: Heat the pot over medium heat until it simmers, stirring frequently for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Test for consistency: Spoon a bit onto a cold plate; it should hold its shape.
  5. Jar it up: Ladle the jam into sterilized jars, leaving headspace for expansion.
  6. Cool and store: Let jars cool at room temperature before sealing and refrigerating.

Notes

The riper the figs, the more flavor they will yield. Experiment with different sweeteners or additional flavors like spices or nuts!
