A vibrant, classic Italian appetizer featuring fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil, and toasted bread – perfect for summer gatherings.

  • 4 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 small red onion, diced
  • 12 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1012 fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 crusty Italian baguette or ciabatta, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients: Wash and chop tomatoes into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Dice the Onion: Finely dice half of a small red onion.
  3. Mince the Garlic: Mince 1-2 cloves of fresh garlic.
  4. Chop the Basil: Roll up basil leaves and slice into thin ribbons.
  5. Mix It All Together: Combine diced tomatoes, onion, garlic, and basil in a bowl. Add olive oil and salt, then toss.
  6. Taste and Adjust: Adjust seasoning as needed.
  7. Toast the Bread: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Toast sliced bread on a baking sheet for 5-7 minutes.
  8. Assemble Your Bruschetta: Spoon the tomato mixture onto the toasted bread slices.

Notes

For best flavor, use fresh ingredients. Assemble bruschetta just before serving to keep the bread crispy.
