Easy Fig Jam

A nostalgic fig jam recipe that captures the sweetness and warmth of childhood memories in every jar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds fresh figs
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the figs: Rinse the figs under cold water and gently pat them dry. Remove the stems and chop them into quarters.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a large pot, combine chopped figs, granulated sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Stir to coat the figs in sugar.
  3. Let it rest: Allow the mixture to sit for about 30 minutes to macerate.
  4. Cook the jam: Place the pot over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Test the texture: Place a spoonful on a plate and let it cool. Check if it holds its shape.
  6. Jar it up: Once ready, remove from heat, let it rest for 5 minutes, then ladle into sterilized jars.
  7. Seal and store: Wipe jar rims, seal with lids, and process in a water bath if canning. Otherwise, let cool before refrigerating.

Notes

Experiment with adding spices or using different types of sweeteners to customize your jam.
