Homemade Fig Jam

Create a delightful homemade fig jam using fresh figs, sugar, and lemon juice, perfect for spreading or pairing with cheeses.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds fresh figs, stemmed and chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your figs: Rinse the figs under cool water, cut off the stems, and chop them into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a large pot, mix the chopped figs, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  3. Cook the mixture: Place the pot over medium heat, bringing it to a gentle boil, stirring frequently.
  4. Simmer and stir: Reduce heat to low, let it simmer for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Test for consistency: Scoop a teaspoon of jam onto a chilled plate and let it cool to see if it holds its shape.
  6. Jar it up: Remove from heat, ladle into sterilized jars, and seal tightly.
  7. Cool and store: Allow the jars to cool at room temperature and store in the fridge or a cool dark place.

Notes

For variations, consider adding grated fresh ginger, fresh rosemary, bourbon, or orange zest during cooking.
