Flag Cake

A cheerful and patriotic dessert perfect for celebrations like the Fourth of July and Memorial Day.

Ingredients

  • 1 Box Cake Mix
  • Eggs (as per box instructions)
  • Oil (as per box instructions)
  • Water (as per box instructions)
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter (for buttercream frosting)
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar (for buttercream frosting)
  • 24 tablespoons Milk (for buttercream frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract (for buttercream frosting)
  • Red, White, and Blue Fruits:
    • Strawberries
    • Blueberries
  • Whipped Cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on the cake mix box and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Combine the cake mix, eggs, oil, and water in a large mixing bowl according to the box’s instructions. Beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  3. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes, then flip them onto wire racks to cool completely.
  5. Beat the softened butter with powdered sugar until crumbly, then add milk and vanilla extract until fluffy.
  6. Spread a layer of frosting on one cake layer, then place the second layer on top and frost the entire cake.
  7. Decorate the cake with sliced strawberries for stripes and blueberries for the stars, finishing with whipped cream around the edges.

Notes

For a unique twist, consider making a chocolate flag cake or a gluten-free version using a gluten-free mix.
