Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 1 cup cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: Warm the milk to about 110°F, add the yeast and a pinch of sugar, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the dough: In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center, add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs, and mix until combined.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the filling: Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter in a bowl to make a paste.
  6. Roll out the dough: Punch down the risen dough and roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Spread the filling: Evenly spread the filling over the dough, leaving a 1/2 inch border.
  8. Roll it up: Roll the dough tightly from one long edge, pinch the seam, and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Second rise: Place rolls in a greased dish, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  10. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F and bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Make the frosting: Whip together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  12. Frost and serve: Once rolls are cool, generously apply the frosting and enjoy!
