  • 1 ½ cups Granulated Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ cup Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Milk
  • Powdered Sugar (for icing)
  • Black Food Coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare your cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: cake flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add vanilla extract.
  6. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, alternating with milk.
  7. Fill the cake pans about ¾ full with batter.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool the ghost cakes in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  10. Prepare the icing by whisking powdered sugar with a bit of milk until smooth.
  11. Decorate the cooled cakes with icing and add ghostly faces.
