One Hour Cinnamon Rolls

Quick and easy cinnamon rolls that bring warmth and joy in just one hour.

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently, then let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix the dough: Add the melted butter, salt, and eggs to the yeast mixture. Stir until combined, then gradually incorporate the flour, one cup at a time.
  3. Knead it out: Once combined, turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Rolling and filling: Once the dough has risen, punch it down, roll it out into a rectangle, spread the softened butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Rolling it up: Starting at one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 even rolls.
  7. Second rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 15–20 minutes.
  8. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Preparing the icing: Beat together the cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until creamy.
  10. Ice and serve: Slather icing on the warm rolls as soon as they come out of the oven.

Notes

For a delicious twist, add nuts or chocolate chips to the filling. Can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight for convenience.
