Halloween Zombie Cupcakes

Spooktacular Halloween cupcakes with a fun twist of green and purple colors topped with candy eyes and gummy worms!

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Green and purple food coloring
  • Chocolate frosting
  • Candy eyes and gummy worms for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream the butter until creamy, then gradually mix in the sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well, then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine the dry ingredients with the milk in three parts, alternating between the two.
  6. Coloring the batter: divide the batter and add green to one bowl and purple to the other.
  7. Fill the liners about halfway with the batter, creating a swirled effect.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool the cupcakes in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  10. Frost with chocolate frosting and decorate with candy eyes and gummy worms.

Notes

These cupcakes can be made vegan by using flax eggs and dairy-free alternatives. They can also be made gluten-free with appropriate flour substitutions.
