Authentic Italian Bruschetta

A classic Italian appetizer made with toasted bread topped with ripe tomatoes, basil, and garlic.

  • 1 loaf crusty Italian bread (ciabatta or baguette)
  • 4 ripe Roma or vine-ripe tomatoes
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice your crusty bread into about ½-inch thick slices.
  3. Arrange the sliced bread on a baking tray.
  4. Toast the bread in the oven for about 8–10 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Chop your ripe tomatoes into small pieces and place them in a bowl.
  6. Add finely chopped fresh basil.
  7. Mince one or two garlic cloves and toss them into the bowl.
  8. Drizzle in olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Stir well to combine the ingredients.
  10. Heap the tomato mixture onto each slice of toasted bread.
  11. Drizzle with more olive oil and sprinkle with salt before serving.
  12. Serve immediately for the best flavor.

Notes

For variations, consider adding fresh mozzarella, avocado, or spicy peppers for a twist.
