Amish Hamburger Steak Bake

A cozy comfort food delight bringing together ground beef and savory flavors, creating a hearty meal perfect for any gathering.

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 tsp Italian herbs
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 ½ cups saltine crackers, crumbled
  • A dash of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 can creamy soup (cream of mushroom or cream of chicken)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup milk (for gravy)
  • 1 cup cheese, shredded (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the meat in a large mixing bowl, combining ground beef, Italian herbs, onion powder, garlic, crumbled saltines, cayenne pepper, and seasonings.
  3. Form the mixture into burger patties about ¾ inch thick.
  4. Brown the patties in a large skillet over medium heat for about 4–5 minutes on each side.
  5. Make the gravy by adding flour to the skillet, then gradually whisking in milk and cream soup; let it simmer to thicken.
  6. Assemble the bake in a greased dish, layering patties and pouring gravy over them.
  7. Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, then an additional 10 minutes uncovered.
  8. Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For variations, you can add sautéed mushrooms, diced jalapeños for a spicy kick, or try different cheeses. The recipe can easily adapt to fit your taste.
