Classic Italian Bruschetta

A simple yet flavorful Italian appetizer featuring toasted bread topped with diced tomatoes, fresh basil, and garlic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 piece Baguette (fresh and crusty)
  • 4 medium Tomatoes (diced)
  • 3 tbsp Fresh Basil (chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 clove Garlic (peeled for rubbing)
  • 2 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil (plus more for drizzling)
  • 1 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
  • Salt and Black Pepper (to taste)
  • Optional Grated Parmesan Cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Tomatoes: Begin by dicing your tomatoes. Aim for a medium dice so they’ll easily adhere to the bread without falling off. Place the diced tomatoes in a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix in Basil and Season: Add the chopped fresh basil to the tomatoes. Season with salt and black pepper, and drizzle with 1 tablespoon of the extra virgin olive oil. Give it a gentle stir.
  3. Toast the Baguette: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the baguette into ½-inch thick slices. Arrange them on a baking sheet and brush with olive oil. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
  4. Rub with Garlic: Once toasted, rub the peeled garlic clove over the surface of each slice.
  5. Assemble the Bruschetta: Spoon the tomato and basil mixture onto the toasted baguette slices.
  6. Drizzle with Olive Oil and Balsamic: Finish with a light drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
  7. Serve: Place the bruschetta on a platter and enjoy immediately.

Notes

Best served immediately while the bread is warm and crispy. Experiment with various toppings for variety.
