Easy Amish Hamburger Steak Bake

A cozy and heartwarming Amish dish that brings family together with every savory bite.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet with olive oil, breaking it apart as it cooks; season with salt and pepper and sauté until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Sauté the chopped onion in the same skillet for 3–4 minutes until translucent.
  4. Combine the beef and onions in a large mixing bowl; add diced potatoes, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth; stir well.
  5. Transfer the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading evenly; optionally sprinkle cheese on top.
  6. Bake covered with aluminum foil for 45 minutes; uncover for the last 15 minutes for crispier potatoes.
  7. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and garnish with fresh herbs before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with lentils or black beans. Feel free to add seasonal veggies for extra nutrition.
