Hamburger Tartiflette

A hearty twist on the classic French Tartiflette, incorporating ground beef and cheese for a comforting family meal.

Ingredients

  • Grass-fed butter (enough for frying)
  • 8 slices bacon
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 5 pounds potatoes, parboiled or leftover, sliced
  • 2 pounds grass-fed beef (or venison, ground)
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • Cheese (whatever variety you have on hand, sliced)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy, about 5-7 minutes, then remove.
  3. Sauté the onions in the leftover drippings until caramelized, about 5-10 minutes.
  4. Cook the ground beef in the skillet until browned, about 8-10 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  5. Combine the beef with the bacon and onions.
  6. Layer half of the sliced potatoes, meat mixture, and cheese in a baking dish. Repeat the layers.
  7. Pour the cream over the layers evenly.
  8. Top with sliced cheese.
  9. Bake for 30-40 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly. Broil for a golden finish if desired.

Notes

Serve warm with a green salad and a glass of red wine.
