Ingredients

  • Small Pears: 4-6, Bosc or Anjou varieties preferred
  • Sugar: 1 cup
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon Juice: 2 tablespoons, fresh
  • Butter: 2 tablespoons, unsalted
  • Cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
  • Shortbread Cookies (Optional): For serving

Instructions

  1. Prep the pears by rinsing them under cool water and peeling if necessary.
  2. Mix the sugar, lemon juice, and 2 cups of water in a medium saucepan until dissolved.
  3. Add the butter, vanilla extract, and cinnamon to the syrup mixture.
  4. Simmer the pears upright in the syrup until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  5. Caramelize the syrup by simmering it on low heat for another 10 minutes to thicken.
  6. Serve the pears in shallow dishes, drizzled with syrup and topped with crumbled shortbread.
