The Ultimate Patty Melt with Secret Sauce

A delightful patty melt featuring a juicy beef patty, Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and a special secret sauce.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 slices of rye bread
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon relish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and relish. Stir until smooth! Set it aside in the fridge.
  2. Caramelize the Onions: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the sliced onions and sprinkle with salt, cooking for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Season the Ground Beef: In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into two equal patties, about ¾ inch thick.
  4. Cook the Patties: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and add Swiss cheese. Cover and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes.
  5. Assemble the Patty Melts: Spread secret sauce on one side of each slice of rye bread. Place the patty with melted cheese on one slice, top with caramelized onions, and cover with another slice of bread.
  6. Grill the Sandwich: Wipe the skillet and add more butter. Grill the sandwich for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip and toast the other side.
  7. Serve Your Creation: Slice the patty melt in half and enjoy with a side of crispy French fries or a fresh salad.

Notes

For a healthier twist, consider substituting Greek yogurt for mayonnaise in the secret sauce.
