Homemade Fig Preserves

A delightful recipe for homemade fig preserves that brings back sweet summer memories.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds fresh figs, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prepare your figs: Start by washing your fresh figs under cold water. Remove the stems and chop them into quarters.
  2. Mix ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped figs, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss everything together gently.
  3. Cook the mixture: Transfer the fig mixture to a large pot and bring it to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  4. Test for doneness: Drop a spoonful onto a cold plate. If it holds its shape, you’re in the clear!
  5. Jar up your preserves: Transfer your fig preserves into clean, sterilized jars while they are still hot. Seal tightly.
  6. Cool and store: Allow the jars to cool slowly at room temperature for about 24 hours.

Notes

If using dried figs, soak them in warm water for 10 minutes before chopping.
